Case study and reflection

Caring for a hospitalised child and their family. The student applies child and family centred care principles to the case study (that the student created in assessment three) to explore culturally safe assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for a hospitalised child. The student considers the role of the family (and nurse) in assessment and evaluation of children’s health and wellbeing.

Description

This assessment requires you to expand on the family story you have illustrated in Assessment 2.

This assessment requires you to apply child and family centred care principles to meet the holistic care requirements of a child that has been hospitalised following an acute episode. A child from the family you have spoken about in assessment 2, has been hospitalised following an acute episode.

A. Plan of care

• Use the template provided for your plan of care. (availablehere)Download here)
• Include a summary of the family story and child requiring care, with any relevant assessment data that informs the basis of the plan of care at the top of the table. 
• Develop three at risk or actual problem/health issues statements (nursing diagnoses) that address three nursing care priorities that are relevant for your case story 
• Pharmacotherapy must be included as part of the interventions/actions 
• Use the Clinical Reasoning Cycle (Levitt- Jones, 2023) and Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Heath Care (ACSQHC) guidelines (ACSQHC, 2019) to inform the content requirements of your care plan. 

B. Essay

• Accompanying the care plan is a 1000-word essay (+ or – 10% inclusive of intext citations) examining the impact of identity, culture, and environment on the child’s health outcomes, and the ethical and legal responsibilities of the nurse that are relevant to your case study. 
• The essay requires an introduction, body, and conclusion. Use headings and subheadings to discuss the key components of the essay. 
• A reference list is to be included, correctly formatted using APA 7th edition referencing style to acknowledge any sources cited within the document.
• Your essay and care plan needs to be written in a scholarly way, drawing on contemporary literature (typically within the last 8 years, eg. The prescribed text was published in 2016) and credible nursing sources.

C. Reflection

• The final piece of this assessment is a word reflection inclusive of intext citations. 
• Reflect on your learning experience in completing this assessment, by answering the following questions. 
• • What was the hardest thing you found about completing this assessment? 
  • What did you do to address this challenge? 
  • Going forward, what will you do differently or what sort of support would you seek? 
• Chose a reflective model of your choosing, noting this framework in your reflection, and use the questions as subheadings for your responses. 
• Ensure that your writing extends beyond description or recounting to reflection that demonstrates your development of knowledge of self, others and profession.
