Abstract:
Background: Patient safety is an essential component of the health care system’s quality. There is an association between patient safety and medication error. Pharmacists can significantly enhance patient safety and decrease hospital expenses associated with medication errors. This research evaluates the patient safety practice across community pharmacies Abu Dhabi and its districts (Alain city and Western region).
 

Method: the patient safety practice was assessed by modified version of Pharmacy Survey on Patient Safety culture, designed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHQR). Suitable sample was selected from community pharmacists in Abu Dhabi and method designed to analyse the collected data among the pharmacists comparing between the seniors and juniors.
 

Results: the response rate was 70.7 %( n=318/450) . The mean positive response rate was 74.7 %. Among all twelve domains the results revealed that the team work scored the highest positive response rate (91.9%) while the staffing and work pressure was the lowest (40.6%). The results showed variations among the pharmacist opinions toward other important domains related to the effect of communication with other colleagues and patients, and the effect of the skills on their practice. Some dimensions showed differences between juniors and seniors in overall rating of patient safety (p-value 0.019) and pharmacy is good in preventing mistakes (p-value 0.022)
