Patrick Jones is a 3 month old male infant who has been admitted to the Horizon Hospital paediatric ward with a differential diagnosis of gastroenteritis. He presented to the Emergency Department with a 48 hour history of vomiting and diarrhoea. Patrick lives with his mother Annie, his father Ben, and his 4 year old sibling Gemma. Gemma has also experienced vomiting and diarrhoea for the past 48 hours. His mother Annie Jones was diagnosed with postnatal depression when Patrick was 2 weeks old. Annie is rooming in with Patrick while he is in hospital, and Ben is looking after Gemma at home.
