ASSESSMENT METHODS 

The module will be assessed by one integrated assignment (001) of 3000 words +/- 10% weighted overall at 100%. The assignment is split into two discrete elements 

1. Case study and Project Outline (1000 words) – 30% 

2. Individual report (2000) – 70% 

The reports must be structured in a formal manner and word processed. The word count excludes those words used in the final reference list, bibliography, forms, templates, diagrams, figures, tables and charts. All references must be in Harvard style in line with the University of Sunderland criteria. The Gantt chart, Network Diagram, etc., should be produced using Microsoft Project software package. Students are required to submit their coursework through JIRA. Only assessments submitted through JIRA will be marks. Any other form of submission, including submission of hard copy to your study centre will be treated of non-submission. A copy of your SafeAssign originality report must be submitted in conjunction with your assignment. All submitted work will be subject to checks for plagiarism. Students may refer to the marking criteria attached herewith for insight into the level at which you are working in relation to the assessment for the module. The assignment will be in two parts (001a and 001b). Part (001a) is weighted at 30% consisting of research work acuminating in the presentation of a business case for the project. In a formal report format, and (b) weighted at 70% is also an individual formal report. (see detailed description of each part below) 

Assessment Part 001a: Based on a project Case Study Selection. You are expected to; 

(i) Identify a specific project within the case study 

(ii) Define and give examples of project types 

(iii) Identify what elements should be included in managing the scope plan of the project you have chosen 

(iv) Clearly identify the project selection tool(s) and technique(s) you have utilized to reach the decision on the project you have chosen to implement in part B, providing a rationale for the project selected. 

NB consider choosing a (or your) project based on whether there is sufficient scope to allow you to demonstrate the application of the wide range of tools and techniques introduced in appropriate topic area(s) of the module. 

Project concepts with too narrow a scope are difficult to expand upon in demonstrating a full range of tools and techniques. The project selected should no less than 20 activities. On the other hand, projects that are initially perceived as being too large or broad in scope can typically be broken down to produce more than adequate scope for the purpose of this assignment. 

Assessment Part 001b - (2000 words +/- 10%) – Project Planning, Implementation and Management 

Assessment Part (b): Individual report based on Case Study (70%). 

This will consists of a formal report (i.e. the report should have an abstract, introduction, body of the report, conclusion and recommendations. 

The report should provide a clear and/or more detailed description of the chosen case study, if you have chosen to continue with your case study in part 001a. From a project management perspective; 

(i) draw the work breakdown structure (WBS) for your the project 

(ii) plot a full project Gantt chart with start and finish times 

(iii) explain the conceptual detail of the network diagram with the forward and backward pass 

(iv) clarify the critical path and show the project duration in days using activity numbers, 

(v) explain the benefits of using a Gantt chart. 

(vi) outline the activities that could have been used to successfully plan and manage this project / case study that links theory to practice in the case study. i.e. you are expected to identify and apply a range of project management concepts introduced in the module to 

a. provide the project definition, 

b. provide the project scope, 

c. develop an activity diagrams, and 

d. describe how you would decide if a project had been successful, and, 

e. identify the potential risks associated with your project, and explain how you will mitigate such risks 

f. identify how the project will enhance the performance of the case study organization.
