They can be used in indoor environments, such as hospitals and museums to track patient’s trajectories or in outdoor environments, such as for sports training to understand the person’s position, motion, direction of motion, overall activity, etc.

This objective of this assignment is to work with available Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) data and to further develop an indoor or outdoor PNS application. A brief report on understanding of PNS and the design/ development of the application is also expected.

The work is divided into three phases.

Phase-1:

3. Come up with you own idea for an application for PNS (for an outdoor or indoor environment which is feasible with the available dataset) or choose one from the list below. The students are free to create a scenario of their own for the applications based on the dataset.

3. Outdoor application1 – Sports person training

4. Outdoor application2- Activity detection of Security personnel

4. Explain the application goal and design using a simple flow or UML diagram. Explain the suitability of the given dataset (which one of the cases from ref [2]) for the application. Comment on expected results.

Phase-2:

5. Use the dataset to develop the chosen application and verify the results. Use any programming language/ data analysis tool of your choice.

Phase-3:

6. Feel free to use any other datasets available online to improve results. Please add a para or two in the report describing the additional dataset and how it has been incorporated in the application.
