Aim

The aim of the peer teaching session is to enable first year nursing students to:

• Appreciate the importance of upholding academic integrity as an emerging registered nurse.
• Be more aware of activities that fall under academic misconduct, and the pitfalls and consequences (personal and/or professional) of making the wrong decision to engage academic misconduct.
• Relate academic integrity decisions to the ANMB Code of Conduct for Nurses and ANMB Decision-Making framework for nursing and midwifery.
• Implement strategies to avoid engaging in academic. misconduct.

Part A

Groups will conduct a 10-minute education presentation to raise academic integrity awareness and understanding of first year, first semester Bachelor of Nursing students.

Groups are encouraged to be creative in their presentations and are welcome to use a range of resources, tools and strategies to enhance audience engagement and learning. Think carefully about an approach that will engage first year nursing students.
Here are some thoughts to get you started:

Think about your audience - will it be directed to first year nursing students as a general group of learners or, will you create a presentation for a specific learner group of first year nursing students?

What part of 'academic integrity' will you focus on. It could be from an academic perspective or, a future professional perspective or, a personal perspective. Think about what you think would be helpful for first year nursing students to know about - especially the traps of being tempted by website that seem to offer a quick solution but there is a dark side thaat students need to be warned about.

The presentation could be designed specifically for an audience of first year nurses to teach them about the topic you have decided on and you could approach this in many different ways - it might be a scenario, a play, an interactive activity or a powerpoint presentation (if you think that is what will get first year nursing students engaged in your topic).

Or you might choose to create a learning resource for the nursing students (a TikTok video, Youtube video, interactive or static resource) and you could use your presentation time to demonstrate the learning resource, how it was designed and created and explain why it is appropriate for you audience..
