The task
Option 1: You are to pick a local or global social, political or financial issue and write an awareness or advocacy speech to an influential organisation such as the United Nations. Discuss your topic and approach with your class teacher
Option 2: You are to create a multimodal children’s text on a local or global social, political or financial issue. Discuss the topic and approach with your class teacher
Task Instructions
Step 1: Select a topic / social issue or idea you wish to promote, advocate for and raise awareness about. Research as much as you can on this topic. Organise information using the analysis and deconstruction template given to you in class.
Step 2: Speech: decide on a persona/ profile/ personalities perspective that you would like to present your speech from and create a realistic backstory based on that ‘characters’ experiences. Then create the story/ narrative to help deliver your advocacy speech on your selected topic. Ensure you have a call to action or outline what change needs to take place. Decide what techniques you will use in your speech to persuade audiences.
Children’s Multi modal text: decide on an age and stage of childhood development and research social, emotional and cognitive learning/ growth. Use the storyboard template given to you in class to help you plan the progression of your narrative and the techniques you will use to help communicate the important themes, messages.
Step 3: Use templates to help you create your first draft to show your teacher and get feedback on during class. Implement feedback and advice and construct the good copy, looking to make improvements all the time. Practice the delivery of your speech or presentation of Children’s multimodal text.
Step 4: Revise PEEL, TIER, or TEXAS paragraph structure and write a rationale that explains and justifies why you have used specific techniques in your creative and explain the impact you intended them to have on audiences. There should be some self- reflective critique in your rationale also.
Step 5: proof read and edit your creative and rationale. Upload an electronic version to CANVAS and submit a hard copy to your classroom teacher by the due date. Be prepared each lesson to present the creative to the class.
