“Ruby the Rude Pharmacy Technician”

Ruby, an employee at SOS Pharmacy requested a meeting with the pharmacy manager this coming Friday. Rumour has it she will request a promotion from a technician whose responsibility is to serve customers, to one whom prepares IV mini-bags for a local nursing home.

The manager gets wind of this rumour and agrees to meet with Ruby. The manager, consulted with the owner of the pharmacy and both agreed that Ruby is not suitable for the promotion. The owner left it up to the manager to break it to her gently.

The manager decided to watch her work habits for the next few days to see her in action, and this is what he saw:

The manager noticed that she is always late for the start of her shift; albeit, only a few minutes, but it happens at the beginning of every shift, after every break and after every lunch.

He also noticed that her personal hygiene wasn’t the greatest. Her hair was always out of place, her uniform was stained and wrinkly, and her shirt was never tucked in. All of this is in contravention of SOS Pharmacy’s Policy on Personnel Presentation.

On numerous occasions, she has been heard telling non-pharmacy customers, with a very annoyed tone, “It’s over there.” She has never offered to show the customer where that particular item was located, let alone got them a customer service employee to help them out. This habit of hers has left the customers looking dazed and confused, more often than not.

Ruby’s mother had called one afternoon to see when she needed to be picked up. She was overheard telling her mother, “Guess what? Our neighbour, Mr. Smith is on Viagra. Can you believe that old man is on Viagra?”

A patient by the name of Carol came in shortly after that phone conversation and asked for her daily dose of methadone. Ruby muttered under her breath, “Just another heroine addict who doesn’t deserve this medication anyways. She is an addict and always will be.”

A patient by the name of Jill St. Pierre, came in later that day and dropped off a prescription for Triphasil. As Ruby was the only technician working at the time, she processed the prescription and filled it. When the pharmacist checked it, he said, “Ruby, you filled this prescription 14 days too early, not to mention the prescription states, Triphasil, you filled Triquilar.” Obviously angry at that remark, she responded, “What’s the difference? We fill it now and get her out of our hair, or we fill it in two weeks? Plus, Triphasil and Triqular are both birth control pills anyways!”
