For this assignment you are asked to write a Research Proposal for secondary and primary research on an aspect of Pharma Business and Technology. 

Part 1: Topic Choice: Identify a research/researchable topic relevant to your studies of Pharma Business and Technology and its related business that is of interest to you. Provide a brief description of your chosen topic and justify your choice. This may be: 

• A topic covered in any of the other modules, the related resources such as readings or case studies attached to them; and/or · 
• A specific problem at an organisation where you work or would like to work in future; and/or · Relevant to a specific technology; and/or · Related to wider, business management in the medical device sector. 

Part 2: Research purpose, aim, question(s) and objectives: Describe the: ·

• Broad purpose of your proposed topic; and Identify a specific aim (focus, locus, process); and · A research question (not a hypothesis); and 
• A set of SMART objectives for your proposed research. 

Part 3: Secondary research strategy: Use your information literacy skills to search for six sources of data or information about your chosen topic. This should include: · 

• A public website e.g., Health Service Executive, Department of Health, etc. · 
• A business source e.g., a company website or document/industry report. · An academic book or e-book e.g., one used in one of your other modules,
• Three papers from different, peer-reviewed, academic, journals. In selecting these sources, please ensure that they are relevant to your overall purpose, aim, research question and objectives. The items can be very recent and explore the latest ideas about your topic. Alternatively, the books and papers may be older, perhaps presenting some of the original thinking behind the idea. 
• A list of references should be provided at the end of your assignment. Outline the search strategy that you used to identify these sources highlighting the following: · 
• The overall search process that you followed. · 
• The main search terms that you used. · 
• The academic databases or search engines that you used (e.g., Google Scholar, Web of Science, Emerald). · 
• Any journals that your searched specifically. · 
• Additional search strategies that you adopted, e.g., citation searches. 

Part 4: Results of your secondary research: Provide a description of what you found including the following: · 

• A brief summary of each item (including its Aims, Conclusions and Methods) and a short Explanation of why each is relevant to your research.
• A short critique of one of the three academic papers.
• A reference list of the six sources you have identified using Harvard referencing style should be added to the end of the document (these references are not included in the word count).

Please note, you should be in a position to complete Parts 1 – 4 after the first two sets of lectures. You should be able to complete Part 5 after the third set of lectures, and Part 6 after the fourth set.

Part 5: Primary research strategy: Set out the overall approach you would take to design primary research to help you to learn more about your chosen topic.

• This should include: · A description of the research overall.
• The associated methodological issues ((i.e., briefly discuss the key features of your preferred research methodology e.g., primary or secondary, experimental, quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods, case study-based, action research, etc. 
• An explanation of why your methodology is congruent with your research purpose/aim/question(s)– guide 100 words). · An outline description of your preferred method for data generation/collection.

Part 6: Data analysis, findings, and conclusions: Describe how you would plan to/intend to analyse the data. Suggest what your findings and conclusions might be. If you feel you cannot predict the likely findings, outline how you will develop them.
