Introduction: I study at my final year of my university and part of the individual project, they have asked to go through an existing pharmacy management system to find the problem/issues the pharmacist face when using the system at Lloyds pharmacy.  After visiting the Lloyds pharmacy, they use a system called (RxWeb) and it is a pharmacy management system that they use to carry out day-to-day activities and storing all the information’s about the different types of drugs/medications. They also use the system to store customers personal details e.g., Full name, Address, Date of Birth, type of medication they take, medical issues related to health issues etc.

I have talk to the pharmacist at Lloyds pharmacy and Going through the RXweb based service below are some of the issues/problems which I found that are associated with the existing system.

• It takes long to enter and process the data while dispensing the prescription for a new patient.
• Sometime printing the prescriptions patients’ personal details can be missing e.g., Date of birth, Full name, address, instructions on taking the medicine etc.
• Mistakenly selling expiry drugs/medication to the patients
• Too much workload on the staff which could lead to bad customer’s service
• Filling cabinet in the pharmacy using paper records for stock controlled
• The software is not very user-friendly as some of the advanced features are difficult to use
• Report and daily stock numbers can be incorrect when ordering drugs/medicine

New system design

After listing the problem/issues the pharmacist faces using the Rxweb based pharmacy management system, now it’s time to design the system which should cover all the problem/issues being faced by the pharmacist which I have listed in the above paragraph.

The purpose of the new design system is to make the rigorous activities/tasks a lot easier and convenient for the pharmacist at Lloyds pharmacy. The new design system will offer the pharmacist the statistics of drugs in stock, generate report which keeps track of communication between the pharmacy and the customers and ensuring effective policing of the activities within the Lloyds pharmacy.
