The work should be undertaken in the same pairs as the previous assessment. The production of a full Project Plan document will give students a sense of what it would be like to work on a real-life tourism project. The completion of this assessment will require students to utilize the work that was done in assessment Part A. The Project Plan should be written as if the scenario was real with findings presented in a format consistent with that of a real-life project. PMT201 The use of the Statement of Work from the previous assessment as a guiding document to inform the Project Plan will serve to demonstrate how the different stages of a project (especially the early stage of planning) will flow through into the later stages and can ultimately impact on the quality of the final project outcome. Instructions: PMT201 A comprehensive Project Plan document is to be produced on the basis of the Port Macquarie scenario which was provided as part of the previous assessment (and is also repeated below). The document should be completed to the professional standard that would be required if the below scenario were real. At a minimum, your Project Plan should address the areas of scope, timeframes and schedules, cost, resource allocation, roles and responsibilities, stakeholder engagement, communication and risk. The below scenario provides you with a brief overview of a hypothetical project for a real life destination. Be aware that the scenario may not cover every detail that you will need to address in the Statement of Work, in which case, you will need to conduct additional research, including further research of the destination. Your Project Plan should also be consistent with the work you have already undertaken to produce a Statement of Work. In a real life scenario, the Statement of Work and Project Plan would be two related documents which together form part of the same project. As such, both documents would reflect the same ideas and project planning approach as the other. This level of consistency (with the Statement of Work) should also exist in your submission of a Project Plan. PMT201 Port Macquarie Hastings Council (PMHC) Case Study - PMT201 Port Macquarie Hastings Council (PMHC) on the NSW North Coast would like to develop a strategic plan that will help to turn Port Macquarie into the next big food and wine destination. However, the development of a strategic destination plan such as this is an expensive and time-consuming task. The council is unsure if they have the resources (staff, financial, etc.) to develop such a plan. You have been contracted by PMHC to prepare two documents that will help the council to decide whether or not to proceed. These documents are: PMT201 - Assessment Part A – A Statement of Work outlining the scope of work that will be required to complete a food and wine strategy for Port Macquarie. - Assessment Part B – A Project Plan detailing exactly how the Council would go about developing a food and wine strategy. Destination Background: PMT201 Port Macquarie is a popular tourist destination best known for its pleasant climate and beautiful beaches. It is particularly popular amongst couples and families who are visiting for a holiday. The destination is busiest during the peak summer season (especially the summer school holidays). In recent years, Port Macquarie has seen steady growth in tourism products related to the food and wine sector – wineries, events, restaurants, breweries, and a pick-your-own style farm. Council believes that it is time to capitalise on this by turning Port Macquarie into the next big food and wine destination. PMT201 Timeframe: PMHC has contracted you towards the beginning of the calendar year. If they decide to proceed with the development of a food and wine strategy, they would intend to begin in May and complete the strategy development process by October (6 months) so that any stakeholder engagement that needs to be undertaken can be done during the winter off-season period. PMT201 Cost: In making their decision, Council will need to know how much the development of a food and wine strategy is going to cost. Council are expecting a total cost as well as a breakdown of individual costs. PMT201 Staff: Council currently have two full-time tourism staff members. The Tourism Manager is in charge of all tourism matters in the destination and will be filling the role of Project Manager if the development of a food and wine strategy proceeds. Beneath the Tourism Manager in Council’s organisational structure is a Tourism Officer who is also available to assist as needed. If any additional or specialist staff are required (e.g. workshop facilitator, research specialist, etc.) then this will need to be factored into the plan. Stakeholder Consultation: PMHC believe that strategies such as this need to be developed in conjunction with the views and opinions of the relevant stakeholders. Any plan that is put forward to council will need to include adequate stakeholder consultation.
