Task: Government policy (public policy) is a complex and dynamic process. Public policy regularly deals with wicked problems, often intentions are good but the policy itself is awkwardly expressed, implemented, or has unexpected perverse outcomes associated with it. With wicked problems perspective is everything, whether a policy is considered to be a success, to have impact, often depends on who you are and what your focus is. This assessment item is designed to get you to explore this complexity. In groups of 4 you will examine a single policy from a variety of perspectives in an edited collected work. An edited collected work is a resource/text consisting of chapters sandwiched between an introduction and a conclusion. Each of the chapters are written by a different person, from a different perspective, they are then combined, summarised and concluded by an academic editor. An academic editor is usually an expert in the area – and has commissioned the authors to write their chapters. Each group will write an introduction, conclusion, and 3 perspective chapters. The 3 perspectives that will be represented are: 1. Federal Government 2. State Government 3. Non-Government Organization (Such as the World Health Organisation or other UN Agency) (This is the my part) Each group will appoint one member to be the academic editor. An academic editor is not a copy editor. The academic editor will be responsible for writing the introduction (1000 words) and conclusion (1000 words) to the collected work. Each group member is ultimately responsible for the editing of their own work. However, having said this, each group is encouraged to work together, to share research they find, actively critique and copy edit one another’s chapters. Sharing your work with your group members for feedback and providing feedback will help you to do your best work and ensure your group creates its best collection. Sharing your work also ensures that your academic editor remains fully informed as the project progresses. Enroll yourself in a group for assessment 1 (this will be done in week one) 2. Introduce yourself to your group and let your group members know which perspective you would like to write from. 3. Establish group rules/guidelines for the management of this project (timelines, expectations, sharing, template, fonts, images, etc) 4. Research your perspective 5. Write your chapter. Each perspective chapter should include the following headings: A. Overview of the policy B. Effect of the policy C. Problems, issues, benefits of the policy D. Critical reception & your response E. Current position on the policy F. Share your draft with your group members according to the group rules G. Revise your draft H. Provide all final papers to the academic editor for compilation into a single document
