1.0 Description 

Power system modeling and simulation is a critical aspect of the successful operation and management of electricity networks. Planning models serve to provide a platform where testing can be performed and scenarios can be verified in an offline environment such that the operation of the network can be planned and optimized. This project deals with modelling and design of a real world distribution network. You are required to simulate and design an electricity distribution network to supply power to various parts of Flinders Island. 

The island is a popular destination mainly for some retirees from mainland Tasmania and central New South Wales. The system must be designed and simulated using Power System Simulator for Engineering (PSS/e) Software. The test system structure is presented in Fig. A.1 in Appendix A. Furthermore, the parameters of the system components are given in Tables B.1 to B.4 in Appendix B. Perform load flow analysis and determine power losses and voltage profile at each bus for the following scenarios using PSS/e: 

• Scenario 1 – Venus Conductor based Radial Network: Assume that the conductor type used for the distribution lines is Venus (Refer to Table B.3 for the parameters of the lines). Furthermore, there is no interconnection between the generation bus at Killiecrankie and the final load bus at Wingaroo. 

• Scenario 2 – Venus Conductor based Ring Network: Assume that the conductor type used for the lines is Venus and the generation bus at Killiecrankie is connected to the Wingaroo load bus. 

• Scenario 3 –Neptune Conductor based Ring Network: Assume that the conductor type used for the distribution lines is Neptune (Refer to Table B.4 for the parameters of the lines) and Killiecrankie Bus is connected to Wingaroo Bus.
