Preparation for the Melbourne Cup. Made posters for the event. Made invitation and invited all the residents for the event. Worked as a team with another social work student. It helped me to work on my professional development.
Tuesday 2/11/21
Me and other social work student hosted the Melbourne Cup event and the residents enjoyed the event. I realized the residents got a platform where they were able to engage socially. Some residents took part in the fashion show that helped them in strengthening their self-confidence. It also enhanced resident’s collective well-being. I also respected resident’s self determination as few residents did not turn up for the event.
Wednesday 3/11/21
Today I met my focused resident who was sharing about a book he wrote and was almost about to publish it but his son in law burnt the book. The resident further shared that he had a bicycle which was sold by his son in law without asking him. The resident also shared that his son in law was not in good terms with the resident.
The resident shared that he is been sitting in his room for few days as he was having cough due to chest congestion. I asked the resident if he wants to get a nail therapy done and the resident was interested but refused and he didn’t want to come out as he was concerned about other residents because of his health as he had chest congestion.
Thursday 4/11/21
Today I met one of my regular resident and the resident decided to draw my portrait and asked me if I could spend few hours with her so that she could draw me. We decided upon a time and worked on it. The resident is a good artist and has done many canvas painting and portraits of important people in her life. The resident made an amazing portrait of mine and I appreciated the resident for the same and boosted the resident’s self-confidence. At the same time the resident was able to work on her social and psychological wellbeing by doing the portrait which she loves.

Monday 8/11/21
Today was the SSC training day organized by one of the supervisors. It was a great experience to see the students presenting on the topics. I had a much better understanding of few concepts that was presented. Also, we all got chance to share experiences of our placement. This training helped me in my professional growth and also got a chance to meet and talk to other social work students which was helpful.
Wednesday 10/11/21
I met a resident as a referral to do the wellbeing plan. The resident shared that she is unable to walk and is not able to take part in the activities as the resident has to carry oxygen cylinder everywhere and it makes hard for her to carry. The resident plays bingo sometimes. I let the resident know that I will come and take her if it makes it easier. Also, I also explored the resident’s interests. The resident loves reading books and shared that she is a fast reader and talked more about it as that was one of her strength.
Thursday 11/11/21
I met one of my focus resident who was upset as the residents was going through constipation for past few days. The resident further shared about the terrible back pain and that she has informed the nurse about this and no action has been taken and the resident feels no one cares about her feeling. The resident also shared about today’s remembrance day ceremony that took place in the morning and also shared about her grandson who is in the army and also shared that she is very proud of her. The resident loves talking about her family as she is close to them. I then used reminiscence therapy with the resident as it works well with that resident.
I met another focused resident who was sad as the resident thought her daughter might have passed away as her daughter was very sick last night. I sat and spent some time with the resident and the resident shared her daughter was in critical condition. The resident also refused to have lunch. I then encouraged and asked the resident if she is happy to have lunch with me. The resident agreed and we talked about the resident interests and the residents felt relaxed afterwards. I realized its very important to have one on one session with the residents getting to share their experiences with their loved ones and their likes and dislikes especially when they feel upset or sad.
