The Brief:
The goal of this task is to see that you understand phase 1 and 2 of the Design Thinking process that will assist in problem solving.
Normally, primary research would be conducted in the empathy phase. In first year, we are looking for understanding of the process. Therefore, for the purposes of this
project, you are going to use secondary research relating to the end-user affected by the wicked problem and use it as if it were primary research. It is expected that you may have to make some reasonable assumptions about your end-user based on the research.
You are going to create a 5-minute video and a supporting document.

Question 1: Cause and effect diagram and narrative
Q.1.1. Develop a simple diagram that shows the causes and effects within the problem’s system. Present this and include it as Appendix 2A.
NOTE: You do not need a designer friend to help you. We want to see that you can provide a coherent flow and basic visual appeal that looks professional. You will need to show how the various components relate and effect each other. Use relevant images and text in your diagram to give it visual appeal.

Q.1.2. Present the above diagram with a spoken narrative that addresses the following:
• Provide an overview of the wicked problem.
• Include a brief synopsis of your diagram; and
• Discuss why you believe innovation is important and how Design Thinking is a useful tool to help solve your wicked problem.
• Include this in the presentation and the supporting document.
