Assignment Task

Overview

For this assessment task you will provide a critique, based on programming principles, of an exercise program (two options provided below). In your critique, you will provide a detailed overview of the relevant training principles and demonstrate your understanding of how they apply to the exercise program you are evaluating. Within your critique you will analyse and interpret the information presented within the program, articulating a logical and coherent argument regarding what the program does well and what it could improve on (i.e., the program's strengths and weaknesses). Demonstrating your understanding of exercise programming, you will present new information that may better reflect the relevant training principles for your chosen exercise program.

Appropriate external sources (i.e., Peer-reviewed research articles and/or textbooks) should be used and cited accordingly (Vancouver) throughout your critique and included in a reference list at the end of the critique.

Introduction

Typically, the introduction is short (approx. 10% of the word length) and should:

  1. Describe the work being reviewed,
  2. Discuss the work in relation to relevant overarching principles/themes,
  3. Describe the main argument/purpose of the work,
  4. Have a concluding sentence that presents what your evaluation will be.

Critical Evaluation

This section is considered the body of work and should:

  1. Provide a systematic and detailed assessment of the different elements of the work (i.e., the exercise program),
  2. Evaluate how well the work achieved its purpose,
  3. Deconstruct the work by examining its strengths and weaknesses,
  4. Support the evaluation with evidence from appropriate external sources such as lecture material, peer-reviewed research articles, and textbooks.

Conclusion

The conclusion is often a very brief paragraph, which includes:

  1. A statement indicating the overall evaluation of the work (i.e., the exercise program),
  2. A summary of the key reasons, identified during the critical evaluation, why this evaluation was formed,
  3. Recommendations for improvement of the work (i.e., the exercise program).
