You are working in the community sector as a Practical Nurse and today meeting with Astrid who is 9 years old. She was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes 5 months ago. Astrid’s mother, Beulah, usually administers her insulin however has recently broken her dominant arm (casted) and states that there is no one else in the home able to assist. Astrid wants to learn to prepare and administer the insulin and her mother is agreeable to this change and development.  According to her mother, Astrid is able to successfully draw up 2 types of insulin into one syringe however cannot administer it.  Your employer has made arrangements for you to visit Astrid daily for the next 5 days, as her primary nurse. Your goals and outcomes must follow the nursing process.
