Strategies - Social Outcomes - Biopsychosocial Theory - Case Study - Assessment Answer

Assessment Task:

Description

The task is to construct a case plan to address a specific problem or concern as described in one of the scenarios available to you in the (CASES EXAMPLES) folder. You will analyse the scenario by reference to biopsychosocial theory, by identifying barriers to male inclusive practice and by offering solutions that are male-culturally competent and strengths-based.

Case 1. Homeless man

I volunteer for an organisation that provides the homeless or socioeconomically disadvantaged with meals on a daily basis and works in conjunction with other services to meet the needs of this group of people. My job is to provide the tea and coffee for the clients as well as walk around and have a chat to see if anyone needs extra care as many find it difficult to openly ask for it. One incident occurred between myself and a man who was sleeping rough, and had been for the last 4 months. This man was known throughout the service as ‘Rough as guts’ for his street fighting and other risk-taking behaviour. Due to this he did not have many friends. Many of the other volunteers and even paid workers did not want to work with him because of the reputation he had developed. One day he started to talk to me about the family he had before he was forced to live on the streets due to drug abuse. He had a wife and a daughter, who he was fighting for the right to see. He mentioned that this little girl was the only thing stopping him from committing suicide, and the only thing that was motivating him to try and remain clean from drugs

Case 2. Widower

I did a field study in a doctor’s surgery with the practice nurse and we had an older man that had lost his wife about 5yrs ago come in, he was a regular but he was still relatively depressed from losing his wife; he would look for things wrong with him but really only come in for a chat and to be looked after. This was still affecting him in a big way as the person he spent his whole life with so far was gone and not coming back. He was on medication but nothing else was done to address the issue and clearly the medication on its own was not working. He was just told to get a hobby. This man was willing to reach out, communicate his feelings and pretty much asked for help but he was not wanting to be a burden to anyone.
