Introduction: USE THIS AS A HEADING
What is this mini-project about? Why is this an important area in intercultural communication? What is the context of the interview/conversation as well as the story that the people shared? (country, location, participants, ethnic backgrounds, age, etc.) Aims: What are you exploring? Method: How are you exploring it? (e.g. interview or conversation analysis, exploring a past experience as narrated by X person).

Procedure for the interview/conversation recording Select an informant or group of informants from among friends, colleagues and or relatives and discuss permission for recording an interaction for your ARTS2698 Mini-Project. Think about and discuss practical arrangements such as timing, and medium/venue for a possible interview or conversation recording. This can be achieved online using a platform like Zoom or Skype or can be carried out face-to-face. Consider your informant’s wishes and comfort level in all these arrangements. Please when planning and conducting this adhere to any current health orders regarding COVID-19.

You must ask your informant permission to interview him/her/them and to record the interview or conversation right from the start, i.e. at the time of organising the meeting. As soon as practicable give a copy of the Necessary Information sheet for the project. When you next talk with the informant(s) and before you do anything else you need to ask them whether they have read the information and whether they agree to help you in your project. This will allow them to make an informed decision regarding their voluntary participation in your recording.

NECESSARY INFORMATION: ARTS2698 Intercultural Interactions Mini Project

This study is being conducted to meet the requirements for the subject called Intercultural Interaction under the supervision of Dr Clair Hill, email of University of New South Wales.

This project aims to give students a first-hand experience of research in the area of Intercultural Interaction. What is involved if you accept to help? The student will arrange to interview you (via Zoom, Skype, or in person etc.) at a time which is mutually convenient and will take 5-15 minutes of your time. The student will record digitally a 5-minute interview or some natural conversation between 2-3 people. In the interview participating people will be asked to share a brief story about an intercultural experience and/or about how he/she/they culturally identifies him/herself/themselves. In the conversation, there will be 2-3 people coming from different cultures and the topic of the conversation will be: "Do people ask you "Where are you from?" and how do you respond in different contexts?"

The interview or conversation will later be transcribed and the student will study this interview/conversation to consider issues of culture, identity and language. This is a totally voluntary act on your part and you may withdraw at any time if you wish
