Design Brief
During the covid 19 pandemic there has been an increasing need for us to access facilities and services remotely.  One of the facilities used within our engineering department is our 3D printing facility which the students enjoy the use of and is vital to their project work.  We have a software solution that allows remote access to the 3D printers allowing students to print without entering the lab.  However, there is still a need to enter the lab in order to remover the print, so preventing another print to be started. 
You are required to produce a product specification and concept design through to chosen concept
Design a method of facilitating continuous printing.  The system should support 18 printers arranged on a racking system with three levels.  The device must be able to travel to the printers and remove the printed component from the bed of the printer.  Assuming the 3D printer is an open FDM printer such as an Ultimaker extended.  Assume the parts being printed are all no bigger than 100 mm x 100 mm x 100 mm.
 
Design Constraints
(Applicable to both Mechanical and Medical Briefs)
Performance
The system must have a fixed point of reference
The system must be self-supporting
Mechanical – Capable of removing 3D printed objects (100 mm * 100 mm * 100 mm) from an FDM printer 3D printer such as an Ultimaker extended
Physical Constraints
Must fit on the framework of the FabLab printer rack
Maximum footprint of the end effector = 200mm x 400mm
Maximum weight of the end effector = 15kg
Budget constraints
Total cost of mechanical components, manufactured or purchased, must not exceed £300
Electronic components are excluded from budget limitations but are subject to procurement limitations.
Manufacturing
All manufactured components must be suitable for manufacturing in-house, using existing Engineering Department Manufacturing capabilities.
