Assessment Task 2: Prepare Project Management Plan
For this task, you will demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to develop a project management plan.
Assessment task description
In the following assessment, you are the project planner for Optiks Telecoms, a leading provider of telecommunications services in your city. You are required to plan a project to upgrade the existing network and prepare for the implementation of the new 5G-NR technology and the adoption of IoT services.
You are required to develop a project management plan and present the plan to the project sponsor, the company CEO, Clara Oswald. You will be provided with a range of documents to assist you in your work.
Assessment task introduction
The project includes two main sections: Procedure and Specifications. You are required to understand the difference between these sections:
Procedure - this section describes all the requirements that are needed to be submitted step by step. You DO NOT need to answer in this part.
Specifications - this section specifies what the student MUST include as part of the project. You are required to insert an object (a document) under each of the requirements. To be deemed ‘Satisfactory’ for this project, all the requirements under the Specifications need to be submitted and completed in accordance with Skills Australia Institute’s ‘Student Handbook’ (under ‘Training and Assessment’ section).


Carefully read the following scenario.
You are the projects planner for Optiks Telecom which is a tier 2 Telco servicing the metro areas of Perth and Bunbury. The engineering department has requested assistance in planning a 5G trial project and as such the engineering department will be the client to the projects department that you work for.
Optiks Telecom offers cellular services and FTTx services in both metro areas. It also offers managed services such as Software Defined Network for private data networks and commercial leased lines. Optiks Telecom is currently interested in setting up a trial 5G cellular network in Como, a suburb of Perth.
The 5G network will make use of several MIMO antennas to service an area that is 6.7km2. A preliminary site survey has been conducted by the engineering teams and they have prepared a project brief and a high-level network audit document for your use.
The next job is for you to develop the project plan for the engineering department who will be your internal clients so that all stakeholders can have a clear road map to how Optiks Telecoms will implement a 5G trial network project.

Document Final Project Management Plan Incorporate the additional information that you discussed in your meeting with Sarah, to prepare a final project management plan. The final project management plan must include
The installation process plan which details how the project will be implemented.
The training plan which addresses the team’s training needs.
Present Plan and obtain sign offPrepare a short high-level presentation using MS PowerPoint which you will present to Sarah. This presentation must give an account of the project scope, the project duration and cost and details of the installation plan.
