Part A: Note-Taking & Data Gathering
This is your research preparation. It will help you organise ideas from your sources.
Instructions:
1. Find four different sources about your chosen career. These sources can include websites, academic articles, interviews, videos, or materials from professional associations. Ensure that the sources are credible and relevant.
- At least one must be a video, podcast, or recorded interview (an oral source).
2. Take notes from each source using any one of the following methods:
- A bullet-point list
- A simple table (with main ideas, quotes, and your thoughts)
- A mind map
- A linear list
- A Cornell-style note sheet
3. Your notes and presented data should:
- Show what the source says (key ideas)
- Include relevant quotes, paraphrases and/or summaries
- Include relevant statistics, examples, and any other pertinent information.
- Include short reflections or questions (if possible)
- Ensure that you accurately reference each source and specific sequences within your notes using APA7 referencing style. This would assist you greatly in writing your synthesis (Part B)
Part B: Academic Synthesis
Write a short academic text (600 words) where you summarise and compare the key ideas from your four sources.
Your synthesis should:
- Combine and link the ideas from all four sources
- Show what they agree or disagree on
- Be written in your own words (some quotes are okay, but keep it balanced)
- Focus on the big ideas about your chosen career (e.g., challenges, opportunities, changes, future needs)
- Offer your own critical perspective on provided outcome
- Use formal, academic style
- Ensure that you accurately in-text reference each information you throughout by following APA7 referencing style.
