Part 2: Basic Formulas: Autofill
Autofill is a great tool that helps fill in information, so you don’t have to type in; for example, the days, months, or certain detected patterns
Turn to a new sheet and to rename it as Autofill
Type Monday into cell A1
Click on the small black button [Fill Handle] on the lower right-hand corner of the cell, and drag across to A7; the days of the week should appear
Type January into cell C1; repeat the step above until C12, and the months of the year should appear
Type 1 into cell E1, 3 into cell E2, and 5 into cell E3; highlight all three cells and drag, Excel has detected and is extending the pattern
Sometimes more than one or two cells need to be entered for excel to detect the pattern and that all cells in a pattern need to be highlighted

Formatting
Numeric values that are entered into cells can be formatted
Type in the following numbers: 1000 in G1, 2 in H1, 400 in I1, January 12
in J1, 12:25 in K1, and 80 in L1
Each of the values can be changed by clicking on the formatting menu to-
Number
Currency
Accounting
Dates
Time, and
Percentage
Click on the formatting button and change each value accordingly
#
Addition
Turn to a new sheet and rename it as Addition, and the first formula you will learn about is addition
In cell A1, type 500, and in cell B1, type 200
Click on cell C1, and then click on the sigma button
Remember to click on the button itself, not on the scroll down menu; that will come later
The formula =SUM (A1:B1) represents the cells; hitting enter will provide them with a sum
In cell A2 type 545; in cell B2 type 690; in cell C2 type 754; in cell D2 type 333; highlight cells A2 – D2 and click on the sigma button, which will cause the sum of the range (2322) to pop up in cell E2

Addition Practice
Think that you’ve been granted a loan to open the business of your dreams
What kind of store / business would you open and why? (e.g. pet shop, florist, mechanic, doctor’s office, etc.)
In cell A5, type Product; in cells B5 to F5, list five products or services you would sell in your business
In cells A6 to A9, type in Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4 (which represent the annual quarters)
In cell A10 type Revenue
From cells B6 to F9, fill in estimated / imagined revenue amounts, keeping in mind when your products or services are most needed (e.g. ice cream would sell more in the summer)
In cells B10 – F10, find the sum of the revenue for each product by using the sigma button
As a final step, find the sum of the revenue for all products (=SUM (B10:F10))
