PSYCHOL 3022: Psychology Assessment Answer
Task:
The analysis is the final stage of the development of a very concise measure of the Big Five personality traits: Openness (O), Conscientiousness (C), Extraversion (E), Agreeableness (A), and Neuroticism (N). Items have been generated and refined so that we now have three items to measure each of the personality constructs; that is, we have a 15-item scale that we hope adequately measures the Big Five. The scale has been administered to a representative sample (
N = 260) and we need to factor analyse the data to make sure that it is behaving as we would expect. Once we have done this we need to check the reliability of each of the subscales.
Data File
The data file is called Assignment1.RData; this is an R data file and is available under Assignment 1 on MyUni. As always, download and save the file to local storage before loading in RStudio – do not attempt to open directly from MyUni with R or RStudio.
The file contains the data frame QPersonality15 which has fifteen items labelled Item1 – Item15. The items are scored on a six-point Likert scale, which represents the participant’s degree of agreement with the statement that comprises the item. The following labels were used for the 6 -point response scale:
never, rarely, sometimes, often, usually, and
always. The actual items are given in Table 1 (below). Those items indicated with an asterix (*) have been reverse scored so that all correlations between items measuring the same personality construct are positive.
Your analyses will be guided by the questions you have to answer. These are on MyUni and you will provide your answers there. Please refer to the handout for Tutorial 1 for a guide on how to proceed. Also see Appendix A, below, for further hints on how to proceed.
