You are required to write a 2,000 word critique as your main assignment. The key to this essay style paper is the requirement to produce an interdisciplinary piece of work. You will note that the criteria associated with interdisciplinarity are the most heavily weighted.

Critique the use of legal processes (including policing) to address social issues, by examining the following topic:
Scare them straight: Juvenile delinquency should be dealt with quickly and harshly.

The students are expected to examine theories such as the Labelling Theory and the Social Learning Theory to critique the statement. But the students are not confined to these two theories; they could use other theories such as the Social Learning Theory or the Rational Choice Theory, if they can present a convincing argument.  (I always tell my students that their arguments have to convince me if they want decent grades. And to this end, I told them that I expect to see some evidence of alternative approaches that have worked.)
