Psychology and Solutions to Social Problems
Psychologists have the obligation to play a great role in solving social problems in society in our daily life. The psychology applied to a problem solving depicts two vital qualities in the case study of social problems, which include paying attention to the psychological approach applied the data collecting method put in place. For instance, in this study, our vital task is to identify social problems in our society and give out a rigorous research test to solving the psychological problem with proven solutions with the mastery of theories in the research of the psychology course. Hence, solving social problems is one approach through which psychologists can enact the value of the psychological approach in our course.
Social Problem Description
In this case study, we are looking into sociological imagination as a social problem because several people in our daily life are poor, unemployed or are alcoholic or commit suicide as one way of solving their problems. When we look into this individual’s majority of us tend to think that these problems are only related to the individuals, not knowing that they affect us directly or indirectly. Theoretical approach on psychology takes a different view of approach as it focuses on personal problems rooted in problems emerging in the society grounds (Dovidio, Piliavin, Schroeder & Penner, 2017).
We need to establish the difference between individual issues and public issues when we are dealing with sociological imagination in society. Individual issues are expressed as a problem affecting an individual as well as other members of the society on personal and moral feelings (Fiske, 2018). Whereas, public problems depend on social structure and the cultural theme of a society one is rooted from, as a social problem affecting the public.
Social Problem Review
Giving a solution to the psychological approach in our case study is one way that aids in accounting for issues that people experience in society. Personally, most issues are seen as private problems that are well understood as public issues as a sociological imagination that is based on structural and personal problems. For instance, using sociological imagination as an approach to solving social problems in society, we mainly focus on the unemployment issue. Whereby, when a few people are unemployed in our society it may be seen as the people are lazy or lack the ability and experience to handle jobs available. Thus, in this example, the unemployment issue is seen as personal trouble owned individually.
In a case where millions of people are unemployed, it is well understood as a public issue since the opportunity gap has been narrowed down, making it a sociological problem to society. Handling this psychological issue, the range of possible solutions is based on consideration of economic status in the society, contrary to the individual situation one undergoes. In most countries worldwide, the rate of the economic downturn is rapidly increasing causing psychological issues to the unemployed in the society. Solving these issues can only be reached out through the theoretical application of psychological approaches learned in the psychology course study.
Secondly, individual eating disorders are seen as a social problem, which is mostly related to the low self-esteem of an individual as a personal problem. Looking into the eating disorders in an individual, it cuts across various ages of people in the society but does not aid in understanding the problems that lead to eating disorders (Sandberg & Alvesson, 2011). This social problem can be neglected at large as a belief of cultural forces that can aid in explaining such disorders.
Literature Gaps in Social Problems
Solving psychological problems as an approach to solve social problems is the first point of view either by neglecting theoretical research through analyzing the problem as an improvement if not a solution to the problem. For instance, social problems can be solved in different social approaches in a psychological study in the class readings. Functionalism is seen as an assumption for social stability for a strong society with adequate socialization and integration for social stability. The social welfare performance aids instability that contributes to gradual social change that at times threaten the social order. The functionalism theory weakens society stability as a fundamental fault based on the structural view of society. Giving a solution to this social problem through a psychological approach, social problems need to take on gradual social reforming rather than abrupt change. Hence, through psychological approach application in our daily life, situations can be easily solved to retain the social value of an individual in society.
Through conflict theory as a psychological approach for solving social problems, restrained inequality must be applied on social class, gender, and other factors as a means to cut social inequality in the society (Willig & Rogers, 2017). In this case, social issues arise as a basic fault in relation to the structural organization of the society where an individual is traced. Giving a solution to conflict theory as an approach for psychological studies, social problems need a far-reaching change in the structure of society.
Symbolic interactionism is one way through which the psychological approach is applied to solve social problems in society. The psychological approach is based on personal involvement in the interpretation of the basic actions of daily activities involved in the working environment. For instance, in our societies people do not largely identify roles that the society sets out for them, however, they abide by this role as they interact on daily basis and finally getting used to them. People tend to argue on the definitions set depending on their situation through the adoption of the reality of these situations. Through symbolic interactionism, people heavily rely on symbols including words and gestures to reach a shared understanding of their interaction. Hence, solving social problems in the society is an intensive field of study that requires research to choose on the most effective approach of psychology to solving the problem raised through mastery of psychological theories.
Facing social issues in the society is not regarded as neutral or rational, as if nobody is shocked on the scientific resolution to aid in solving the issue, the majorities tend to think of scientific options about the same social problem-solving. Facing the psychological approach method of handling social problems in society, we need to consider ethical standpoints arising from day to day activities in the society (Thibaut, 2017). Through the ethical application of the mastery theories thought in the psychology course study, we will be able to solve social problems in the society as it is in this case, where applying theoretical approaches in giving solutions in the society are concerning the psychological application.
Social psychology tends to illustrate human behaviour which results from the mental states and social situations of an individual. Social psychologists aim at analyzing both the benefits of a relationship with various people and the costs of being lonely as a means to get a solution to social problems that emerge from such cases, as every individual has his own opinion on handling a situation he/she faces in the daily chores. The aim of this case study is to learn more on social behaviours as the psychologists carry out the research, as the approach is believed to be vital allowing human behaviour to critically gain insight in individual relationships with other people from different class levels and societies.
Social Psychology Lens
Through social psychology lens, a psychologist should verify the authorized body on the research capital funding? Whether it is tender oriented? If it is a research initiative? With many, more issues that will aid the social psychologist to use in conducting the research he/she intends to carry out. Thus, understanding social psychology in solving social problems in society is a vital process that needs clear outlined data encryption in which various groups affect individual choices made in daily life. In addition, Social psychology creates room for the gain of appreciation on social perceptions that affect interactions individually in collaboration with other people.
In conclusion, learning more about social psychology is one way through which we can enrich our understanding of our individual thoughts and feelings to the world and the surrounding. Through a theoretical view of how people view others, how they react, their behaviour and how attitudes are formed. Through the literal appreciation of social psychology, social relationships will influence individual functioning as it is depicted in the social psychology course that is deeply concerned on the evidence of mastering theories and research approaches in psychological approaches to solving social problems.
