This assessment task will get you to critically appraise research around one topic and then compare and contrast the literature to make a statement regarding their findings.

Assessment Task:

For this assessment, students will be picking a topic related to mental health nursing. They will then critique 3 research papers on their chosen topic utilising CASP tools. The findings of this critique will then be used inform "real world" application in health care.

Details of the Task/Instructions:

• Pick a topic related to mental health nursing. Suggested topics include (safewards, restrictive interventions, physical health of mental health consumers).
• Search for existing literature on the chosen topic. You need to pick 3 original articles (not reviews) written within the last 10 years. They can either be qualitative, randomised controlled trial (RCT), cohort study, or case-control study but you need a variety (then cannot be all the same type - you can use no more than 2 that are the same type).
• Use the correct CASP tools to critically appraise your three articles.
• With the findings of your critical appraisal, you need to compare and contrast the three articles. This means comparing and contrasting different concepts, agreeing with, confirming or defending a finding or point of view based on the findings of your CASP tool appraisal.
