Single motherhood is a common phenomenon in all countries of the world. It comprises of women who have one or more children without support from their partners in ways such as physical, psychological and financial support. The state of single motherhood comes with many life challenges which impact the health and well-being of single mothers and their children. Research demonstrates that single mothers encounter many challenges in the transition to and the state of being single mothers, including inequalities and inequities of health involving various determinants such as employment/income, housing, education, discrimination and social acceptability. These socio-economic factors play a key role in the life journey of single mothers.

3. Use the Ecological Model to analyse factors relevant to the case study that influence health behaviours and health outcomes of the population in the following perspectives.

• Interpersonal level (Relationship)
• Community level (Community & Societal)
4. Reflect on your thoughts/activities and challenges in preparing the assessment in the Learning Journal such as information provided to complete the assessment, class activities, searches for further information and references.
