Highlights
Background
This assessment task uses the Longitudinal Survey of ACU Student Health and Wellbeing, a (fictional) cohort study involving a survey administered to students on enrolment with ACU (first-year baseline) and selected follow up data (during the third year). For this task, you are presented with baseline data, along with selected follow-up data (where indicated) on:
1. Road traffic accidents
2. Depression and obesity
A list of general variables is given at the end of this document in table format. It is essential that you familiarise yourself with the statistical codes of each variable.
Dataset
The dataset will be made available to you through LEO 10 minutes before you start your exam. You will then have 120 minutes to complete the exam and submit your work through Turnitin. Please note the 120 minutes includes you submitting your work through LEO so please make sure you take this into consideration.
This computer exam consists of three main tasks:
1. Using SPSS, perform a one-way ANOVA to compare the means of aggression, thrill-seeking and risk acceptance for the Faculty demographic variable and provide a brief interpretation of your findings.
a. Using SPSS, determine if the homogeneity of variances assumptions is satisfied. Assume
a normal distribution for all continuous variables.
b. Present the correct test statistics and p-values as given by SPSS.
c. Provide justification as to whether or not post-hoc testing is required
d. Present a bar chart (using chart builder in SPSS) of the mean values of each continuous variable on the one graph.
e. Report the correct statistical interpretation of findings in written APA format.
2. Using SPSS, determine if there is a relationship between driver aggression and thrill-seeking scores. Provide a brief interpretation of your findings.
a. What statistical test have you chosen? Why have you chosen this test?
b. Check the assumptions of your chosen test. Have they been satisfied?
c. Present the correct test statistics and p-values as given by SPSS.
d. Report the correct statistical interpretation of findings in written APA format.
3. Look at the depression and obesity variables (BL_owob, edu_par, owob_par, OB) in the dataset.
Using ‘depression’ as your dependent variable, determine which of the depression and obesity variables are the best predictors of depression. [10 marks total]
a. What statistical test have you chosen? Why have you chosen this test?
b. Show that you have used at least two types of regression methods in SPSS
c. State which variable(s) is/are the best predictor(s) of depression according to your model
d. Report the correct statistical interpretation of findings in written APA format.
