(b) 1 potential objection • Potential Objection to Singer, view? • While I am sympathetic to the general orientation of the conclusion, Singer is not convincing in their claim that Mill is outdated, or that Mill's view on respect for individual liberty "verges on naivety" (120); Indeed, Singer uses the same reasoning to support their own conclusion: `plain packaging laws should be embraced as methods for promoting autonomous decision making, in a context rigged already by private corporations that do not have our best interests at heart' (120-21). Thus, it is misleading (confusing) to suggest that a different argument is needed in favour of plain packaging, beyond inferences drawn directly from Mill, view.
