In this reflection piece, you will concentrate on examining a source through the lenses of Purpose and Audience. Understanding the intended Purpose to and intended Audience of a source can help us in two ways: first, it leads to a greater understanding of the author’s motivations behind publishing the message, and second, it helps us to better understand our own reaction to the message.

In this written reflection, you will work to identify the purpose and audience of your chosen source and then reflect on what factors led you to your conclusion.

Assignment Directions

1. We will learn about the concept in detail in Week 3 and run through an example of the assignment in Week 4. Then, you will have the rest of the class time to do the assignment. This is a good opportunity to ask your professor any questions that you may have regarding your reading or critical thinking process. You must submit this reflection by Week 4, at 11:59

2. Read the source that correlates to the topic that you chose for your proposal

 Answer the following questions in paragraph form. Remember to cite examples and evidence from the article to support your responses. The total length should be about 750

• What is the intended purpose of your chosen source? How have you determined the intended purpose?
• Who is the intended audience of your chosen source? How have you determined the intended audience?
• How does your positionality (i.e., age, generation, gender, sexuality, culture, religion, career, political affiliation etc.) affect how you read this article? Identify one stand-out point from the article and explain how it enhances or challenges your ideas on your chosen topic based on your perspective from one of the characteristics
• Would you recommend this source to someone who isn’t familiar with your critical thinking topic? Why or why not?
