Highlights
Purpose
Businesses create value through their activities in various ways depending on the purpose of a business. This assessment allows you to map how value is created inside and outside a business. With a shift to the stakeholder model of business and the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that assist businesses to link with larger societal goals, combining value chain mapping and SDGs and their associated targets can be a useful approach to expand the impact and value of businesses.
Description
In this assessment you are asked to analyse how the processes and products/ services of an organisation impact the SDGs. You must select an organisation from the following list only. If you complete this assignment on an organisation that is not listed below, then you will receive 0 for the report.
Introduction
You should introduce the organisation (considering who they operate for, who their stakeholders are, and why they do what they do). Also outline the purpose of the report and the scope of the report.
Value Chain Map
Students are required to map 4 (four) SDGs, including your chosen target/s, on the value chain of an organisation. Select the value chain that is appropriate for your organisation. You will see three options within the template document, service, product or hybrid, choose one. In Module 6 and workshop 6, we discuss how to map SDGs and your chosen target/s along the value chain using the United Nations Global Compact document.
For the SDGs and your chosen target/s that your organisation has a positive impact on, students are required to map them above the value chain, corresponding with the relevant stage of the value chain. For the SDGs and your chosen target/s that your organisation has a negative impact on, you will map them below the value chain, corresponding with the relevant stage of the value chain. You can map multiple SDGs with your chosen targets at the same place in the value chain, and an SDG with your chosen target/s may contribute both positively and negatively by your chosen organisation.
Analysis of SDGs
After you have done your visual mapping of the SDGs with your chosen target/s along the value chain, it is important to offer some justification for why you have mapped that particular SDG in that location on the value chain. Students are required to to outline why you have mapped the SDGs in those locations and use research to support your justification. You can use industry wide research to inform you. You should consider the SDG targets in your analysis.
