Report Writing Assessment Answer
Assignment Task: PYB210
PYB210: ANOVA Problem Solving Task 2019
Your job in this assignment task is to produce an APA formatted lab report (title page, results, discussion, references (if used), appendix). You
do not have to write an abstract, introduction or methods. The marks allocated for each task are shown in brackets below. Your approach to these tasks will benefit from reading relevant texts and lecture notes. The marking criteria will include the accuracy and clarity of your description and interpretation of the data, adherence to correct APA style in reporting results, and your ability to select and present the appropriate statistics. Please note that an abstract, introduction and methods are not required for this assignment, just a results section and discussion. If you have used references in your results section, please include an APA formatted reference list; no references are required in the discussion section.
Previous research indicates that self-esteem programs can enhance the self-esteem of adolescent boys. A researcher was interested in testing the effectiveness of such programs and how much training was needed to enhance self-esteem. She tested this by recruiting 160 grade 12 boys from a selection of Brisbane Schools. She randomly allocated the boys into four groups. The groups were exposed to self- esteem programs of different durations (1 hr program, 4hr program 10 hr program or a 20 hr program). She measured self-esteem at the beginning of the program and again 1 week after the completion of the program and recorded the percentage of change in the boys' self-rated self-esteem. An SPSS data file called ANOVA_Assignment_2019.sav containing the data the researcher gathered is located on the Assessment page of the PYB210 Blackboard site in the Assignment 2 ANOVA Problem Solving Task folder.
Your tasks are:
- Formulate hypotheses based on the information given above, that use analyses covered in the learning materials. You will need to have a hypothesis that compares duration on self-esteem (including follow up tests). You can write a hypothesis for the duration on self-esteem that is appropriate for either planned comparisons or post hoc tests (make sure your choice of analysis matches your hypothesis). Although hypotheses are generally presented in an introduction, you do not need an introduction in this assessment – simply present your hypotheses as an opening introductory paragraph to your results.
- Use SPSS to conduct the analyses necessary to fully test the hypotheses and explain the data. Note we are looking for the correct selection of the SPSS analyses and options necessary to understand the outcome of the experiment not the number of analyses that can be done with this data. Please present your SPSS output as an Appendix to the presentation of your hypothesis and results.
- Write a correctly formatted Results section presenting all relevant aspects of this analysis. The results section should include checks of your assumptions, your main test of the hypothesis and any follow tests you may need (make sure your choice of follow up tests matches the wording of your hypothesis) and effect sizes where appropriate. Please justify the decisions you have made in terms of the results you have chosen to report
- Please present the descriptive data for your hypotheses in an appropriate format. You MUST have a graph that shows the effect of duration on self-esteem in appropriate APA. This part of the assignment is designed to let you acquire skills in using SPSS or other software programs to produce graphs. Writing results tip sheets located in this assignment 2 folders, the example graph shown in tutorials. The key here is to produce a stylistically correct APA graph (hint remember your error bars).
Write a few opening paragraphs, like you would include at the beginning of the Discussion Section, summarizing what this analysis says about your hypotheses, general description of the results, limitations and future recommendations. No references required for this section.
