• Imagine that your supervisor has asked you to purchase an item of industrial equipment. It must not be a domestic product, such as: food, clothing, electronic equipment, sporting goods, a family car, furniture, a telephone, or a computer etc. Some examples of industrial equipment are: machine tools, electric motors, valves, PLC’s, robots, etc. It would be a good idea to choose a piece of equipment that you can find a lot about. Briefly describe the type of equipment that you have chosen for this assignment and the use to which the equipment will be put. A brief example: it will be a CNC lathe for machining brake discs.

• Make a list of the requirements that this piece of equipment must have in order to be able to do what it is supposed to do. You will need to imagine a use for it. A brief example: it shall be capable of machining 350mm diameter brake discs, etc.

• Make a second list showing how, a particular example of the type of equipment that you have chosen matches your list of requirements. A brief example: a DMG WIA CNC lathe will accept a workpiece 355mm dia x 400mm long.

• Describe any other things, about the example that you have chosen, that you believe contribute to its level of quality. A brief example: DMG provides service support in Victoria.

• Comment on whether you think the price matches the quality level. You will find it easier to do this if you compare your example against competing products. A brief example: the importer of cheaper CNC lathes, sourced from China, offers no service support in Australia.

3. Report:

• The report shall consist of the following sections: Introduction; Body; and

References

• The Body can have as many sections as needed.

• This report shall be in Word format.
