1. Why do we need to test the linearity of a signal generator? (1 mark)

3. Let us consider that the DUT is a power amplifier. In the measurement, the power supplied to the DUT is recorded from a signal generator, and the power available from the DUT is recorded from a spectrum analyser. With no calibration to remove the losses of interconnects, would you be likely to overestimate or underestimate the power gain of the DUT? Provide an explanation. 4. Provide one nonlinear distortion effect and briefly explain the meaning. (1 mark)
5. If nonlinear components cause nonlinear distortion, why do we use them in RF systems? (1 mark)
6. In Section 4.3 of Lab 2, why should you adjust the signal generators to obtain the power on the spectrum analyser that is equivalent to the power level recorded in the TOI point measurement? (1 mark)
7. Why do you need to reject the image frequency in an RF heterodyne receiver? (1 mark)
8. Discuss the function of a mixer in the receiver unit. (1 mark)
9. From Lab 4 on the transmitter side, if the IF component has a central frequency of 50 MHz and a bandwidth of 2 MHz, what can we expect for the RF spectrum that is radiated into free space? Use the LOTx frequency that you calculated for your kit. Draw a spectrum graph to accompany your answer. (1 mark)
10. In the final design of transmitter and receiver unit setup, do you need to use external filters? If yes, which on-board filters in the transmitter and receiver units do they replace? Explain your decision. Hints: we have external RF filter E × 2, and external RF filter F × 1. (2 marks)
11. Give one reason why a heterodyne system is preferred over a homodyne system. (1 mark)
