Introduction

• State which group of children is your focus and define your terms.
• Identify areas you will cover in your answer. This will help to provide both clarity and depth to your writing.
• A good introduction will set the context for your written argument.
• It is important to identify your focus for the paper and link this to theoretical perspectives which cover risks children in your group face and the impact on their lives.
• Your choice of areas to explore will be guided by your reading.
• You will need to make use of essential reading together with evidence drawn from your own research of the literature

Part 1

• Identifies generic areas to explore in your paper to examine links between child abuse and child welfare.
• Examine historical perspectives of child abuse and legislation 
• You will need to examine policies on safeguarding and show their importance to understanding contemporary child welfare.
• You will need to make reference to current legislation and where appropriate protocols which shape professional practice locally and nationally 

Part 2

• Begin by setting the context of your chosen group of children.
• Then examine safeguarding from both a policy and practice context.
• Identify safeguarding policies relevant to your chosen group and link these to practice.
• Provide examples of provision to show use of intervention as well as support for children and their families related to your chosen group. You will need to examine the role of different providers who support your chosen group and their influence in shaping contemporary child welfare.
• Consider the role of individuals and ecological / psychological/ sociological theoretical influence to your chosen group.
• Remember to write sensitively with consideration to the topic you are writing about. Go on to discuss the safeguarding needs and experiences of your chosen group.
