In particular, every day the concentration is r times the concentration of the previous day for a specific growth rate r. At the end of 30th November, it was 10mg for every litre of water. Seven days later, at the end of 7th December, it was 700mg for every litre of water.

a. Find the value of the rater and then determine the percentage increase of concentration per day.

b. Find how much time (in days) the concentration of algae takes to multiply by 10. Find an exact expression.

c. Assuming the same rate of growth continues, find approximately how many days after 30th November it takes for the algae to reach the same weight as the earth(approximately 6 · 1024 kg). Note: Blue Lake has 30,000 Megalitres of water, and one litre weighs 1kg.)

d. Under the same assumptions, how many days after 30th November will the weight of algae be one-tenth of the weight of the earth?

e. Show that the colour of Blue lake was purple on 19th December at 11:16 pm, that is there was approximately 1kg of red algae per litre (kg) of blue water.
