(i) The discouraged-worker hypothesis effect – when economic conditions worsen

of the labour force.
(ii) The added-worker hypothesis effect – when economy worsens, many
secondary workers (e.g., mothers with children, who are not currently in the
labour market) may decide to join the labour force if the main breadwinner in the
