Disorganized attachment is a type of behaviour or feeling that is expressed by the children due to stress, depression or confusion. In such cases, the parents serve as both a source of fear and a source of anxiety (White et al., 2019). The attachment theories are based on relationships between the parents and children or between romantic couples. According to Duschinsky et al. (2017), John Bowlby stated an attachment theory and said that every human being gets bound emotionally with his or her partner, parent or care provider. They express their emotions or sequence of emotions upon separation such as crying, screaming, protest, or others. John Bowlby stated in the theory that emotional detachment helps the individual to make new bonds that will offer resources and attention that are required to ensure survival. This phase has different phases such as the pre-attachment phase, attachment in making phase, clear cut attachment phase, and others (Umemura et al., 2018). Mary Ainsworth expanded Bowlby’s work to check and assess how children regulate their negative emotions about their care providers (Crittenden et al., 2017). Cindy and Shaver also expanded the attachment theory for adults in different phases such as insecure ambivalent, insecure-avoidant and secure (Stern et al., 2018). The children are very much attached to their mothers or caregivers, as a result, they feel sad and depressed when they get separated from their care providers, some become independent (ambivalent attachment), some seek care from care providers (secure attachment) and some tend to avoid their care providers or parents (avoidant attachment). The children with disorganized attachment suffer from different types of emotions and thereby, they show different phases of attachment (Theisen et al., 2018). According to Khan et al. (2020), it has been observed that as the individual transition from childhood to adult the attachment also get transitioned. As per the triangular love theory, love can be understood in terms of 3 components such as commitment, passion and intimacy and these 3 components are interlinked and interconnected to each other; the attachment theories focuses on the fact that there is a feeling of bondedness, relationship satisfaction and closeness (Sorokowski et al., 2021). The studies have also shown that 30 % of the attachment styles change over time. When a childhood attachment transitions into an adult romantic attachment then it involves the development of different factors that collectively contribute to the relationship and the type of attachment. For example, in a romantic relation the trust, love, confidence, bonding, and commitment result in a stronger bond between the partners. Moreover, if the child faces a breakup in the adult stages then he will develop different types of attachment (Clifford, 2017). For example, in the case of ambivalent attachment, if the child feels sad when the parents leave then during transition an adult might think that his partner does not love him or her. In the case of secure attachments, the child seeks comfort and confidence from parents but in the case of an adult romantic relationship, the adults seek trust and social support from their partners (Cowie, 2018). In the case of avoidant attachments, the child might have issues with parents and can avoid them but during transitions, the adult in a romantic relationship might have problems with intimacy and feel unwilling to share his or her thoughts or feelings (Stroebe, 2019).
