You are a general contractor, renovating a rectangular building with dimensions x,y and z during winter. The lowest floor is fully below grade. There are 3 floors of offices above this and a mechanical room located on the top floor (all floors are same height, total 5 floors).
Assume the building is rectangular with all floors having the same floorplate. .The building is undergoing a major renovation including the removal of all interior wall/ceiling and partitions. The exterior glass curtain wall system and punched windows are also being replaced and a temporary, insulated hoarding wall is installed in place of the curtain wall to protect from conditions. The building must maintain temperature t1 (in degrees C) in harsh winter conditions with windchills going down to t2 (degrees C). Using mechanical engineering principles of Heat Transfer (metric), derive the equation(s) to determine the amount of heat required per floor in kW/hr of the building. Include all reasonable heat transfer methods of convection, conduction, radiation, air leakage from/through all surfaces (roof, walls, foundations). State all assumptions, define all variables. Provide the analysis and calculations that you apply and explain the engineering thought process that you use as you come to the final equation(s).
