In this assignment you are required to prepare a report on the marketing activities of a brand in terms of marketing mix and positioning of the brand. The purpose is the demonstrate understanding of the key marketing concept by comparing theory/concepts with practice.
Overview:
1. Choose a brand from the following: Haigh’s Chocolate, Tesla, Apple or Aldi.
2. Choose one concept from each of the two elements of marketing mix i.e Product and Price Discuss them in the context of that brand. So, how does that concept compare with the chosen brands’ marketing mix element.
For example, in the case of Product as one element of marketing mix, you could discuss any of the product related concepts covered in lecture 6 and compare the concept with the brand that you have selected to work on. So, you could discuss your brand in terms of product life cycle, different levels of product, new product development or any other concept covered within the scope of this marketing mix i.e Product. One concept is enough. Similarly, for Price, you could discuss pricing strategies in the context of that brand or pricing tactics and so on. So, choose ONE concept from each of the two Ps of Marketing and discuss it one by one with respect to the brand that you have chosen.
3. In the discussion you are expected to provide support to your argument based on either research and/or theory discussed in the lecture and/or industry reports about that brand. For example, if you propose that the brand is at a mature stage of the product life cycle, you must provide justifications and arguments with respect to why, in what way and/or how this brand is at a mature stage using academic research or theoretical arguments from books or using industry reports about that brand.
4. Once the two Ps are covered in your discussion, the second part of the report is about positioning of the brand and how prominent the brand is in the mind of the consumers.
Provide commentary on the positioning strategy adapted by the brand.
5. The last section of the report should be about your recommendation based on your findings in relation to Product, Price and Positioning.
6. The recommendation should be specific and must include rationale.
