The Brief
Article 9 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) specifies that they should be able to “live independently and participate fully in all aspects of life”. One aspect of that it to improve the accessibility of the built environment through the principle of Universal Design. You are asked to investigate the latest research on this subject in the last ten years by identifying and analysing key research articles. You must choose to research ONE of the following topics:
Topic
A: The cost and/or measurement challenges associated with implementing Universal Design in the public buildings and spaces. [Hint: Consider articles on cost-benefit analysis of inclusive design and/or accessibility benchmarking tools].
B: The construction management challenges in providing access in public buildings and spaces for users with a range of different disabilities (such as mobility, vision and hearing impairment).
C: The way in which legislation (such as NZS 4121:2001 Design for access and mobility – Buildings and Associated Facilities) and practice (such as New Zealand’s Disability Strategy policy) aim to control the accessibility of the built environment for people with disability.

E: Studies that focus on the measuring the accessibility of specific parts of the public built environment, such as libraries, parks, etc. (but excluding dwellings and other private buildings).
Introduction
This section should provide a clear definition of Universal Design. It should give examples of the different types of buildings/spaces that everyone should be able to access in accordance with the CRPD principles, referring to specific articles in the UN CRPD, 20061. It should then explain the goal of your report (based on which topic you selected
Methods
This section should explain the steps you used to identify and select the key journal articles, conference articles, book chapters and/or legislation. Describe the limitations of your search
Results and Discussion
This section should describe the findings of the selected research articles. You MUST include summary tables that supplement your description. For example, the summary tables might specify (for the articles reviewed), aspects such as:
