Assignment Task

Your task is to undertake a minor research project in a selected educational leadership topic. There are three common approaches outlined below. You should discuss and agree on the best approach with your supervisor during Week 1 of the subject.

1. Critical review of literature of an educational leadership issue

This option involves you identifying a topic you are interested in examining in educational leadership and completing a critical review of literature in the chosen area. The purpose of this approach is to deeply analyse the current literature on your topic critically then presenting your own perspectives in your field.

2. Self Study

If you choose this option, you must be in the position to professionally examine yourself as leader in a chosen educational organisation. This is therefore difficult if you are not currently working in an educational organisation. To complete the self-study, you will identify a particular educational leadership practice you would like to develop and ‘study EDGL941 Subject Outline Autumn, 2024 Page 14 of 21 yourself’ over a period of time in order to generate insights into your own educational leadership development.

 3. Document analysis

This option requires you to identify a problem you wish to investigate through examination of public documents, e.g., curriculum development, educational policy. The purpose of this approach is to analyse a particular educational leadership topic through examining documents in order to generate insights and findings associated with an identified problem. Please note that only public documents can be examined.
