The Scientific Method is a tool, or a process that scientists follow in order to research a subject, to generate knowledge that is testable under a range of given conditions. In science, knowledge needs to be created through observation, hypothesis generation, experimentation, and communication. Data is collected and tested so that it fulfills the criteria of ‘predictability’. Scientific ‘truth’ is when a phenomenon can be accurately predicted by a set of principles. Once the hypothesis has been tested repeatedly, and is true under all tested conditions, the observation is said to be a ‘Theory’. 

Although there are various ways of generating knowledge, the Scientific Method developed over several centuries, and is currently the most useful way to generate scientific knowledge. Of course not all knowledge can be generated in this way, and this should be kept in mind.
