Task:

Your task for this assignment

• Your initial task is to carry out a survey of the literature* on project risk identification, analysis and evaluation tools and processes to inform the review. You are looking for contemporary and seminal literature on this topic which is relevant to the sector of your organisation/project types.

• In the format of a report, you will discuss this literature*, considering its strengths, weaknesses and relevance to your organisation’s projects.

• Also in the report you will make a recommendation on a risk identification, analysis and evaluation method (including the key processes and tools to be used) for the organisation’s projects (or a particular project).

Report structure For assignment 1, provide the following: Mark sheet/rubric (see separate mark sheet and rubric)
Report cover sheet

Executive summary (200 - 300 words – not included in word count) Table of contents, List of Tables (if required), List of Figures (if required)

1. Introduction (150 words) Introduce the purpose of your report and its structure.
2. Organisational context (200 words)
3. Literature review (900 words) • Structure this section in two-parts:

o Risk identification
oRisk analysis and evaluation

• Summarise, compare and contrast the literature* you have found which is relevant to these topics and the domain of the organisation/project/projects. Select the most relevant and reliable 3 or 4 peer- reviewed journal articles/scholarly book chapters per topic (i.e. total reviewed 7 – 8 pieces of literature).

• Ensure you explicitly justify why your choice of literature* is reliable (e.g. date of publication, whether it has been peer-reviewed and is based on evidence) and discuss the relevance in terms of strengths and weaknesses of the argument (e.g. is the research study focused on an sector/industry similar to your organisation?).

• Use sign-posts to increase the readability of your review. Sign-posts demonstrate to the marker that you are addressing the requirements. Examples of sign-posts include:

o The weaknesses of Smith’s (2018) article is… [as highlighting “weaknesses” is a requirement of the task.] 3 o Smith (2018) compared to Brown (2019)… [as “comparing” is a requirement of the task] o Smith’s (2018) study is of greater relevance than Brown’s (2019) because… [as assessing “relevancy” is a requirement of the task]

§ (note: don’t use italics in your paragraphs to show sign-posts)

• You can support your literature review with tables and figures.

4. Recommendations (500 words)

• Based on your review of the literature* suggest the tools or processes that should be used by the organisation’s projects (or specific project) for identifying, analysing and evaluating risks. Justify your recommendation – what are the expected benefits from adopting the recommendations.

5. Conclusions (150 words)

• Summarise your findings (i.e. what did you discover from conducting the literature review?). Reference List * Literature means peer-reviewed journal articles and academic book chapters. Literature does not include the industry practice guides such as the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), PRINCE2, ISO Standards or Textbooks. If you are unsure about what is a peer- reviewed journal article or academic book chapter, please seek clarification via the StudyDesk forum well before submitting your assignment.

IMPORTANT:

• The focus of this assignment is on demonstrating an ability to find, summarise and discuss high quality and relevant literature.

• This is not a critical analysis as you are not comparing the projects actual processes to the literature. You are simply reviewing relevant literature for what may be useful to the organisational/project. Assignment 2 is a critical analysis.
