SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS 

AIM

Develop the design through detailing the roof, stormwater system, external and internal wall finishes and cladding of your design that you have allowed for in Assignment 1b, so that weather (wind, rain and temperature) does not enter the office floors, and there is fire separation between floors. The deliverables for this assignment are configured so that there can be more of a focus of quality rather than quantity. 

BRIEF Drawings 

• Produce a set of drawings that document the requirements below to AS1100.301. The drawings and documentation are to demonstrate your comprehension and application of the requirements. At 1:5 scale, elements 10mm or thicker (such as plasterboard cut in section) need to be drawn as a thickness, not just a single line. Structure 

• Correct the structure from Assignment 1b that affects the perimeter of the building, especially perimeter band beam dimensions, slab thickness and perimeter column sizes 

• Please note that columns on the perimeter of the office levels should be square or circular with a cross- sectional area of min. 0.12m2 to max. 0.14m2. 

• Also note that the portal columns and beams on the 4th floor are to be corrected if incorrect in Assignment 1b 

• Floor-to-floor heights of the car parking and office levels is to match what was required in Ass. 1b Ground Floor and First Floor: 

• Apart from the soffit of the 1st floor (the underside of the 2nd floor), the car parking levels do not need to be considered in this assignment Second, Third and Fourth Floors, and Roof: 

• Provide internal and external wall cladding (and secondary structure if required) and floor finishes to the office floors as required below. All surfaces visible from the functional areas are to be finished – please use the appropriate wall and ceiling internal finishes from Assignment 2 

• A wall cladding type will be assigned to you, check your announcements for your tute groups for which one you have been assigned. It will be either precast concrete, curtain wall or aluminium panel. DO NOT change your assigned cladding. 

• Provide roof cladding and ceiling to the office floors as required below 

• Provide continuous insulation to the external skin of the building, including the roof, walls and the underside of the 2nd floor office slab 

REQUIREMENTS

1) Generally 

• All materials to be products available in Australia 

• See attached section and elevation diagrams below for extents of details, vision glazing and cladding materials

2) Roof Cladding and Parapet 

• Allow for a parapet wall to extend 1m above the bottom of the box gutter. The visible cladding of the parapet from the ground is to be the same material as the external cladding of the office floors 

• The roof pitch is to be 3 degrees – select a steel sheet type roof cladding appropriate for a required minimum 3 degrees fall towards the box gutter 

• The steel sheet roof cladding is to be supported by 300mm deep cold-formed (folded) steel purlins laid across the fall. The purlins are to be mechanically fixed to the portal frames by steel cleats welded to the tops of the portals 

• Provide thermal break (such as sarking) between the sheet and the purlins

3) Stormwater Drainage from Roof 

• Provide a box gutter behind a parapet wall at the outside edge of the building. 

• The box gutter is to have a cross-sectional area of min. 0.20m2 to max. 0.22m2. Please dimension this on your 1:5 section detail 

• Box gutters are to have sumps that are the same width of the gutter, and extend down100mm below the bottom of the gutter. Dash these in your 1:5 section detail. Please use a conventional non- syphonic system to drain sumps 

• Downpipes are to be 200mm diameter leading away from the sump down the inside of the façade or column. Dash these in your 1:5 section detail. 

• Downpipes can travel to the ground following the lines of columns or be taken back to the cores – please make this clear in your details

4) Glazing for External Walls of the Office Floors 

• Provide double glazed, vision glazing (and appropriately sized and spaced aluminium framing) as indicated on the attached sketch for your assigned cladding system

5) External Cladding of the Office Floors 

• Your assigned external cladding will be either a) curtain wall, b) solid aluminium. panels [for example HGV Facades Mondoclad] or c) precast concrete panels. 

• Please include secondary and tertiary structure to support the external cladding, if applicable 

• All materials to be locally available, provide supporting evidence such as Australian manufacturer websites (Bunnings is not appropriate).
