Highlights
Saskatchewan has more Crown corporations than most provinces. As discussed in the video presentation, there a variety of reasons why Crown corporations are established. Sometimes the public policy rationale for a Crown corporation might change over time, as economic circumstances and a government’s public policy priorities change.
Question
Select a Saskatchewan Crown corporation and provide your assessment of the following:
Was the original public policy mandate of the Crown corporation you are investigating valid?
Has the mandate changed over time? Does there continue to be a valid public policy reason for public ownership?
What would be the implications of a privatization? Consider potential benefits as well as costs in your response.
Do an online research on one of Saskatchewan Crown Corporations that has not been already discussed in detail in this forum. There are enough of them to not get repeated. You can select a Crown Corporation whose services you are very familiar with (for example, as an employee or client), or you can challenge yourself and learn about a new one. Please identify your level and nature of familiarity with it in your response. Provide a link to your source(s) of information.
