In an uncertain world, a robust management information system (MIS) is critical to an organisation’s competitiveness and survival. 

The word count for this essay is 2000 words. You are allowed + or : ten per cent of this word count.

The themes you use should reflect those discussed in the course.

  • Introduction: Outlining the structure of the essay and the key themes to be covered.
  • Main Body: This covers the main analytical section of the essay and should combine academic theory and illustrative evidence. You should discuss your three key reasons in turn. Reason One and solution, Issue Two and solution, Issue Three and solution.
  • Discussion: This should be the evaluative section of your essay and discuss which of these challenges is the most important and why? 
  • Conclusion: Finally, you should summarise your key conclusions and recommend action that mangers should adopt to meet the challenges of the future.

You will write a reflective coda which reflects your personal experience of how you use MIS systems and how you will develop and improve your skills in order to improve your future career prospects. The reflective coda should be written in the first-person tense. The word count for the reflective coda is 1000 words. You are allowed + or – ten percent of this word count. You should draw some of the themes in the course to inform your reflection and supplement these with your own research.

The main body of the coda (900 words) should consist of two or three illustrative examples of your personal experience of using and contributing to MIS processes in your current role or in any previous role. In all cases you must draw upon your own lived experience to provide the illustrative examples of practice used in the coda. Your experiences can be positive, they may be negative or they may be neutral. In all cases these examples of practice are equally valid and all can contribute to a rounded and honest reflection. When reflecting upon your participation in MIS processes you MUST use academic theory to help you reflect on your experience. Some of this theory should use theories presented in the course and you are free to also use relevant theory uncovered by your independent reading and research.
