• Jot down the cues you have collected from the information provided, including the presenting symptom (chief complaint) that lead the patient to seek healthcare 
• Analyse the patient's vital signs - are they within the normal range? lower than normal? higher than normal? For any vital signs that may be abnormal, make a note of the clinical term for the finding (e.g. At 0200, Mr X's heart rate was > 100 beats/min = tachycardia) 
• Consider whether a focused cardiovascular assessment or a focused respiratory assessment would be most appropriate to gather further relevant information.
