Part 1 – Main topic/Specific topic/Thesis/Group or Individual Charter
1. You have a choice: A) you can do this project individually or B) you can work as a group of a maximum of two (2) people.
2. There are four main topics to choose from:
a. Examine methods used in the field of DNA technology along with human, environmental and social implications.
b. Evaluate the impact of infectious disease on populations and consider measures to control the spread of infection.
c. Analyze factors that threaten the health of our biosphere assessing the long-term impact and evaluate methods to protect it.
d. Analyze current early warning capabilities and methods to predict and safeguard against geological hazards.
e. Examine technological advances in the area of space exploration and asses impact in the field and society in general.
3. The four main topics are very broad. Select one main topic and find a specific topic within the main topic. For example, if you selected 2d (geological hazards) perhaps your specific topic would be snow avalanches in British Columbia.
4. Write a thesis statement pertaining to your topic. A thesis statement is a paragraph summarizing the key idea that you are trying to argue or prove in your presentation.
5. Complete the document on Conestoga (content, assignments, final project) titled Group Charter or Individual Charter. Submit to the dropbox in eConestoga by Friday, November 8th.
Part 2 – PowerPoint presentation/In-class presentation
6. You or your group will be responsible for gathering and organizing information for your presentation. You will put together a PowerPoint presentation.
7. Your or your group PowerPoint presentation must be submitted to the dropbox in eConestoga by Friday, November 22nd (minus 10% if the presentation is not submitted by due date).
8. Arrive at your presentation time Wednesday, November 27th (Section 1); Friday, November 29th (Section 2) on time (minus 10% for arriving late).
9. You or your group will be presenting your material as an in-class lecture (15-20 minutes long). Do not read from your PowerPoints (present your information with as few notes as possible) and be prepared to answer questions.
